Division Definitions

OF BREYER: Horses that are molded in styrene, tenite, hard plastic, rubber, etc, and mass produced from a factory. The model may be touched up as long as it is not noticeable, but may not be altered in any other way. This division includes Breyer and any other OF Plastic model that is not a Stone Horse. This division is for Traditional, Classic, and Little Bit sized models.

OF STONE: Horses produced by the Stone Horse factory. The model may be touched up as long as it is not noticeable, but may not be altered in any other way. Stone Design A Horse (DAH) models show in this division. This division includes all Traditional scale models as well as Pebbles.

SPECIALTY PLASTIC:

  • BREYER: For OF Breyer/ Other Plastic models which are runs of 350 or less. This will include all OF Plastic Connoisseur models, Breyerfest Raffle/ Volunteer models, one of a kinds, and any other model created in a run of 350 or less. There is a separate class for SM scaled models that fall into this description. These classes will be double judged for breed and collectibility. Please see the collectibility description below. Vintage Breyer will be defined as 1970 and earlier. Vintage Breyer Mini will be defined as 1975 – 1980.
  • STONE: For OF Stone models which are runs of 25 or less (including one of a kinds). There is a separate class for Chips and Pebbles scaled models that fall into this description. These classes will be double judged for breed and collectibility. Please see the collectibility description below.

***NOTE: All OF Plastic Unrealistic color models will show in the Specialty Division Unrealistic Color classes, regardless of run size.***

MINI DIVISIONS: For SM/Chips and Micro Mini scaled models only! Any other scale must be shown in the regular division. If you have a SM (or smaller) scale OF Plastic model that is neither a Breyer nor a Stone, you can show it with the OF Breyer minis – but make sure it is SM scale! The judging ring for this division will be split into four or five quadrants, and the four or five classes in each group will be brought up at once. That way, the judge can judge an entire group and name Champ and Reserve without anyone walking back and forth.

** Exception #1 – in the AR Mini Division, if your resin is a shrunken version of a Traditional scale piece, it will show in the Mini Division, regardless of true scale. Therefore, Mini Haggis, Wee Wyakin, Mini Scarlett, etc. will show in the Mini Division. This is to avoid the possibility of a mini version showing against the original version of the same resin. All of Sarah Mink’s sort of over-sized minis (like Valinor, Tango, Daffydd, Elsie and Oliver, etc) will still show in the regular AR Division. **

** Exception #2 – Schleich and Safari models will be allowed to show in the OF Breyer Mini Division, so long as they are under 4” tall at the ears**

OF CHINA/ RESIN: This division includes any model horse which was mass produced in a factory and is made of china, porcelain, earthenware, stoneware, cold cast porcelain, or any other china-like or resin-like material. As long as it was mass-produced in a factory and has not been repainted or altered in any way, it belongs here.

CM CHINA: Chinas that have been customized by glazing and firing –NOT cold-painting. This includes models that were custom ordered from a factory (like Horsing Around) or custom glazed by individual artists. Classes will be split as needed.

COLLECTIBILITY: First and second place models in these classes will receive a yellow NAN card, which will qualify them for collectibility classes at NAN. The OF Plastic Specialty Divisions will be double judged for breed and collectibility, except for the Unrealistic color classes – these are collectibility classes only.

For China collectibility:

OF American Pottery includes Pour Horse, Marcherware, Kristina Lucas Francis, Westerly Design, Laf ‘n Bear Studio, Cybis, Boehm, Lakeshore, etc.
Other OF Resin includes Breyer resins, Black Horse Ranch, Starlight, Border Fine Arts, etc.
Other UK China includes Melba, Royal Worcester, Albany, Hereford, etc.
Other European China includes Hutschenreuther, Rosenthal, Augarten, Royal Copenhagen, Kaiser, Goebel, etc.

***NOTE: Cold-Cast Porcelain is actually a resin, where porcelain dust is added to the resin. It is NOT fired, which is why it is called “cold cast.” So, any OF model made of cold-cast porcelain is actually an OF Resin. Breyer has made cold-cast porcelain pieces as well as true, fired porcelain pieces. ***

For all collectibility classes (plastic and china),  an information card is required, specifying name of model, maker, years of production, rarity, and/or anything that makes this model special. ANY MODEL ENTERED IN A COLLECTIBILITY CLASS WITHOUT AN INFORMATION CARD WILL NOT BE JUDGED!
